Rachel Alexander, mezzo-soprano, is from Tupelo, MS. She completed her Bachelor’s degree at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS, and her Master of Music degree at SMU in Dallas, TX. She is currently a third year Doctoral Candidate at USM. This year, she has performed as Julia Child in Hoiby’s Bon Appetit!, Marcellina in Opera Festival di Roma’s production of Le Nozze di Figaro, and will be Hansel in USM’s upcoming children’s outreach production of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. In the spring, she will perform the title role in Carmen at USM. She has worked professionally for The Dallas Opera, performing in a weekly travelling operetta for children. Rachel loves that opera allows her to explore the full range of human emotions through characters as distinctive as Hansel and Carmen. Her goal is to be a committed storyteller: one who draws you into the story so completely that you almost forget that she is singing.
