Elana Gleason, hailed by the New York Post for flaunting “pinpoint finesse on high B’s and C’s" and by Opera News for singing with a “particularly beautiful soprano," is excited to be returning to Mississippi Opera to sing the role of Mabel in Pirates of Penzance. Most recently, Elana collaborated on a concert series of Southern-American music entitled American Portraits, which she took on tour. After the success of the series throughout the gulf coast, it was picked up by Clayton Piano Festival in Clayton, NC, which will present American Portraits in the fall of 2017. Recent roles include Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia (Natchez Festival of Music), Micaela in Carmen (Natchez Festival of Music), the title role in The Merry Widow (Regina Opera), Violetta in La Traviata (La Piccola Opera), Nedda in Pagliacci (Opera Company of Brooklyn), The title role in Tosca (cover, Mississippi Opera), Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly (Opera Louisiane), and Frasquita in Carmen (Staten Island Philharmonic). In 2013, Elana was a top 10 finalist in the Arkadi Opera Idol competition. Ms. Gleason is a graduate of Bard College with a BA in music, and currently resides in New Orleans, where she can be frequently seen performing in New Orleans Opera’s “Opera on Tap" concert series and in the ensemble of their mainstage operas.
