MISSISSIPPI OPERA PRESENTS FROM BIZET TO BROADWAY!

A fun-filled Recital and Live Art Auction Featuring…

International Opera star Richard Troxell & Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano Kirstin Chavez

International Opera star Richard Troxell and Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano Kirstin Chavez take you on a musical journey of love, passion, betrayal and more in From Bizet to Broadway. The vocal duo captivates and charms their audience with selections from “Carmen” to Cole Porter, from “Samson and Delilah” to Rodgers and Hammerstein. This unique event is both enchanting and unforgettable.  From Bizet to Broadway will be presented on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at 3:00 pm, at Sunnyplace (a private residence), 3705 Highway 22 East, Livingston, Mississippi 39071.

From Bizet to Broadway features arias, ballads and other Broadway favorites. In addition to the concert there will be a live auction of original paintings by well-known Jackson artist Bill Wilson, who has created several original paintings for the Mississippi Opera’s 70th anniversary performance of Carmen.

Selections from Bizet’s Carmen will include the famous “Habanera,” “Seguidilla,” the “Flower Song,” and the beautiful final duet of the opera. In addition, they will perform the famous aria, “Mon coeur s’ourvre a ta voix” from the Camille Saint-Saëns opera, Samson and Delilah. Their Broadway selections include “We Kiss in a Shadow” and other duets from The King and I.  While it may be rare for Troxell and Chavez to perform in concert together, they have performed in the opera Carmen on numerous occasions with Chavez as the lusty Carmen and Troxell as her ill-fated lover, Don José. They have appeared at such prominent venues as the National Theater in Taiwan, the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing and the world-famous Sydney Opera House in Australia.

Kirstin Chávez is considered one of the most riveting and significant performing mezzo-sopranos today. The combination of her magnificent voice, dramatic intensity and natural physical beauty, make her an arresting and unique presence on the operatic stage. Ms. Chávez has captured attention and acclaim in her signature roles and is recognized as one of the definitive Carmens of today; a role that she has performed with great success throughout the United States, and around the world. Opera News reported that her Carmen in Graz, Austria was “the Carmen of a lifetime.” Professionally, Troxell has sung leading roles in opera companies nationally and internationally and starred in the Martin Scorsese film “Madame Butterfly” as B.F. Pinkerton. He has also been seen on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Original paintings by Jackson Artist Bill Wilson based on Bizet’s Carmen will be auctioned during a live auction at this event. Wilson has worked as a portrait painter, gallery artist, jewelry maker and illustrator for over 20 years. His portraits and gallery work are in both corporate and private collections all over the country and include six Supreme Court justices. Additionally, he has created storyboard and design work for the film and theatre industry. Bill has written and illustrated two children's books, The Fib: A Wordy Tale and Dorf's Art Lesson. These books are based on the characters from his web comic Pippin & Maxx (now in its eighth year). He is currently working on his third book, The Road To Lapprolee.
