MISSISSIPPI OPERA PRESENTS THE THIRD ANNUAL VOICES OF MISSISSIPPI COMPETITION
Jackson, MS— Saturday, September 24 at 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., at Barber Auditorium in Belhaven University, Mississippi Opera presents The Third Annual Voices of Mississippi Competition. The acclaimed competition brings together collegiate and professional singers from all over the Unites States, and is open to singers who have a relationship with Mississippi.
Competition age categories are Student Artist (age 18 to 23) and Young Professional Artist (age 24 to 35). The audition format consists of performing two opera arias, or two musical theatre pieces, or one of each, in front of renowned judges. Winners get cash awards and priority consideration for roles in upcoming opera productions.
“Mississippi has outstanding vocal talent in opera and musical theatre,” said Tippy Garner, Executive Director of Mississippi Opera. “We’re excited to bring together an outstanding field of competitors, as well as providing opportunities for all emerging talent in our State.” If you would like to attend, the competition, it is free and open to the public.
The winners of the competition will be featured in a wonderful evening concert on Monday, October 10, 7:30 p.m. at Duling Hall (622 Duling Ave.) in Jackson. Tickets for The Voices of Mississippi Winners’ Concert are $25 each.
